When asked how an individual could become successful American economist Alan Greenspan answered by saying â€Å"To succeed, you will soon learn, as I did, the importance of a solid foundation in the basics of education - literacy, both verbal and numerical, and communication skills.† This recommendation is one that I utilize in all areas of my life: professional, personal, private, and educational. Despite the conditions it is safe to say that operative communication skills are indispensable in any situation. There is no general agreement on what skills are essentially needed to guarantee successful communication, nor is there a definite way to regulate whether those skills are being refined. In both professional and social lives better relat ionships can be developed these skills make a person more empathetic. Communicating is something done a on a constant basis everyday of our lives, it’s something that we cannot live and thrive without. This inspired me to begin studying Communications. It assimilates the studies of social science and humanity, not mention it is a versatile field. I felt as though majoring in Communications was ideal for someone like me. I say that because I have diverse talents, multiple interests, and now I have excellent listening skills, and if it is not too braggadocios I consider myself to be quite the speaker. In the field of Communications I am not limited to what I can do with my degree. I can work in Education, Public Relations, Marketing, Media Editing and Journalism just to name a few fields. Embracing operative Communication skills in both an individual’s personal and professional life is highly beneficial. Not only will the study of Communications broaden a person’ s outlook.
